I am June Hamon
My Husband was diagnosed with mesothelioma in September 2015. He has just started chemotherapy to try and improve and extend the quality of his life but has reacted very badly to it. As a full time working person it has already become increasingly difficult to juggle work with caring. It is quite bizarre that if I was to have a baby my partner would be entitled to paid time off for up to two weeks after the birth and prior to that paid time for ante natal appointments. As a carer for someone with a life limiting illness I am entitled to very little, or nothing.
My options are:
(a) 3 days compassionate leave
(b) unpaid leave
(c) flexible working (from home)
(d) reduce my working hours (and therefore pay which I cannot afford to do)
(e) take annual leave
(f) get signed off sick
I am lucky enough that the organisation I work for allows me to work from home flexibly but there must be thousands of people in front-line and customer service roles that are unable to do this and their option must surely be to get signed off.
This must be costing businesses and the economy as a whole a small fortune.
I have, therefore, set up a petition to try and get the law amended. Please could you help me by clicking on the link below and signing the petition? Even if it can't help me, it may help others in the future. Thank you for your support.
