A substantial grant has been announced to fund a nurse-led UK research project into mesothelioma, the asbestos-related cancer disease. Mesothelioma UK and Pat Stone Meso Support have offered up to £25,000 funding to support National Lung Cancer Forum for Nurses (NLCFN) members with small-scale research studies or projects into supportive or palliative care for patients with mesothelioma.

The grant was announced at the NLCFN annual conference this week. Members must apply for the research grant by 6 March 2017 and studies should commence in June 2017. Emerging results will be presented at the NLCFN conference in November 2018.

To be eligible for this funding, the project must be 100 per cent focused on mesothelioma and independent of any programme of education.

Anyone wishing to apply should visit https://www.nlcfn.org.uk/MesoUKGrant for further details and an application form.

Graham Stone from Pat Stone Meso Support said: “The Pat Stone Meso Support charity is extremely proud to be associated with this opportunity which has the potential to further the understanding and care of sufferers of this cancer which now takes the lives of substantially more people than are killed on our roads each year.”

Liz Darlison, Mesothelioma UK Director of Services and Consultant Nurse, added: “We’re delighted to be working with Pat Stone Meso Support and the NLCFN to offer this important research grant. The UK has the world’s highest incidence of mesothelioma with more than 2,500 people diagnosed each year and this number is increasing.

“Mesothelioma UK is committed to supporting research into all aspects of treatment and care related to Mesothelioma and we encourage members of the NLCFN to apply so we can help them with their relevant projects.”

About Pat Stone Meso Support:
