Mesothelioma UK is committed to achieving its ambition of recruiting 28 mesothelioma nurse specialists across the UK to provide local access to expert, specialist support and information. To help with this aim, the Pat Stone Meso Support charity has pledged a significant donation to fund a specialist post in the London area.
Graham Pound set up the charitable trust in his wife’s memory (Pat Stone). Pat was a science teacher at an inner London senior school for over 16 years up to 1988 and taught in the labs where asbestos mats and gauze were used extensively. She was diagnosed with mesothelioma in December 2013 and died the following November.
Together with four of her close friends, a charity was formed in Pat's name with a view to providing support and advice to patients and their carers diagnosed with this disease. This charity has been funded by the monies received in lieu of court action to be taken on Pat's behalf.
Currently, there is no mesothelioma nurse in the capital but with this generous donation from Pat Stone Meso Support, a post has been advertised and we hope to appoint a suitable candidate shortly.
