10 top tips for communicating for communicating a diagnosis of mesothelioma
“We need to make the patient feel like the most important person in the room”.
The importance of communicating a diagnosis of mesothelioma in the most helpful way to the patient cannot be underestimated. A recent study aimed to address the lack of evidence on how best to communicate a mesothelioma diagnosis, and identify the best way to do it by talking to patients and their families.
The study, Receiving A DIagnosis Of MESOthelioma (RADIO Meso), funded by Mesothelioma UK and carried out by researchers at Sheffield University, aimed to understand how the patient and carer experience of receiving a diagnosis could be improved and to generate recommendations for practice.
Using the feedback from patients and families, and discussing it with healthcare professionals, the researchers identified ten recommendations that can influence good communication.
The researchers would like your opinion on the recommendations. Please take a few minutes to take this survey which will be open until 13th April 2018.
